Sometimes a Website URL will include words they didn't intend to, such as /index.php/ or /wordpress/.
This is usually caused by the permalink settings in WordPress and can be updated in the dashboard.
Troubleshooting
- Review the .htaccess and confirm it has the default WordPress rewrite rules
-
Confirm the home/site URLs
TIP: This can be checked from the site's database.
- Log into the WordPress dashboard
- Go to Settings>Permalinks, and switch the permalink type to the type that's intended to be used, or remove any additional portion to the custom structure that doesn't belong
- Click the Save Changes button
TIP: If the URL to the homepage is something likedomain.com/wordpress, or any subpages are likedomain.com/wordpress/about-us, then the site likely exists in a subdirectory of the document root. To remove/wordpress, the site files need to be moved out of the subdirectory, wordpress, and into the document root.
