Here we will cover how to easily take a backup and restore it for a site managed/installed with Softaculous. This process requires access to cPanel to complete.
Backup a Site Using Softaculous
CAUTION: On shared hosting plans with InMotion Hosting Softaculous backups are only kept on the server for 7 days. After which, they're automatically removed.
NOTE: If Softaculous is missing, it may not be on the account, such as Dedicated Server plans that have not purchased a license.
- Log into cPanel
- Navigate to Softaculous Apps Installer, located in the Software section
- Click the All Installations button in the top-right of the screen to see managed/installed sites
- Click the Backup folder icon next to the target site
- Check the Backup Directory and Backup Database options to ensure they are enabled
- Click Backup Installation
- Once finished click on Backups and Restore icon at the top-right to see a list of backups
Restore a Softaculous Backup
- Log into cPanel
- Navigate to Softaculous Apps Installer, located in the Software section
- Click on Backups and Restore icon in the top-right corner
- Click the Restore button next to the site and dated backup you wish to restore
- Wait for the restoration to complete
