Payment Extension Options

We do understand hardships occur; sometimes, things happen, and you need more time to renew your account due to difficulty meeting the payment deadline.

If you are having difficulties and payment is unable to be made for services by the upcoming due date, or if your bill item(s) were suspended and you need more time, the following information can be reviewed to determine what bill items are eligible for extensions and how to request one.

Payment extensions can only be granted for hosting plan bill items that meet certain criteria. 

If you wish to renew any suspended bill items or are unsure if you will be able to renew on time, please contact Customer Service to determine what options are available as soon as possible.

Extension Options

• Our Customer Service department can set you up with an extension, in most cases up to 14 days, depending on the account status

Hosting Plans

TIP: All extension options available are based on your individual account specifications. Chat with us to determine your available options.

• Renewals
  • These are processed on the listed renewal date in AMP
  • Unless it was purchased with a domain registration, in which case the hosting plan will attempt to renew 14 days before the listed renewal date in AMP along with the domain bill item(s)
• Suspension Process
  • IMH Grace Period
    • When payment is not made by the due date
    • An automatic 7-day grace period is granted
    • Your hosting will not be affected unless the domain is past its renewal
  • Account Suspension Period
    • When payment is not made by the end of the grace period
    • Another 7-day grace period is provided
    • The account is suspended, and services are disabled
  • Data Removal
    • When payment is not made before the end of the suspension period
    • All account data is purged from the server
      CAUTION: This data includes any website files, databases, emails, email accounts, and backups. Once purged, the account could only be restored from a provided backup.
• Extra Information
  • These are bill items that sync with your hosting and will get any extension applied to the corresponding hosting plan
    • Backup Manager
    • Google Workspace
    • Softaculous 
    • Dedicated IP(s)
    • cPanel and Server Management
    • RAM and other extras for Dedicated servers

Domain Registrations

CAUTION: While we may be able to provide an extension for domains, it is not recommended as this will not bring your website back up, it will simply give you time to make the payment before the bill item is removed.
TIP: All extension options available are based on your individual account specifications. Chat with us to determine your available options.

• Renewals
  • Processed 14 days prior to the listed renewal date in AMP
    NOTE: This is to allow ample time to process payment if it initially fails prior to the actual expiration date with the registrar.
    IMPORTANT: If a domain is even 1 day past the expiration date, the site and associated email accounts will not function until payment is processed. This is not subject to change.
• Suspension Process
  TIP: Detailed further in Expired Domain Lifecycle.
   
  • On average you have 40 days after the renewal date to renew at the standard price
  • The domain then enters a redemption period of about 40 days 
    • During this time you will have to pay the Domain Redemption Fee which varies based on the domains' TLD
  • Finally, the domain is removed from the registrar's system
    • This makes it available to the general public where anyone can then register it at the standard price
    • This can be anywhere from 60-90 days after the renewal date
      IMPORTANT: Once the registration expires, Tucows may, at its discretion, elect to assume the registration and may hold it in its own account, delete it, or sell it to a third party.

Dedicated SSLs

CAUTION: While we may be able to provide an extension for dedicated SSLs, it is not recommended as it will not extend the use of the SSL certificate, it will simply give you time to make the payment before the bill item is removed.

• Renewals
  • Processed 14 days before the listed renewal date in AMP
    NOTE: This is to allow ample time to process payment if it initially fails prior to the actual expiration date.
    IMPORTANT: If the SSL is even 1 day past the expiration date, your site will show as unprotected.
• Suspension Process
  • When the SSL is 7 days past the renewal date
  • The bill item will be suspended from the account
