Here we will cover how to create a cPanel account through WHM to grant a developer access to a subdomain, not the main/primary domain. This will restrict the developer from accessing all of the accounts' domains and allow them to access just one cPanel account.
This process is only possible with reseller or VPS+ accounts at this time.

Before Creating the Child Account
- Creating child accounts can only be done on VPS, Dedicated, and Reseller hosting plans
- Confirm that this subdomain does not currently exist on the server
TIP: If the subdomain exists in the cPanel for the main domain, it will first need to be removed. - Create a server snapshot (VPS only) or a full cPanel backup before proceeding with changes
Create the Child Account for the Subdomain
- Follow the guide to create a child account within WHM
TIP: The subdomain will be the domain for the child account.
EXAMPLE: If trying to create a separate cPanel account for domain.com, the domain entered during the child cPanel account creation process will be example.domain.com.
NOTE:
- Allow up to 24 hours for the DNS to propagate for the subdomain.
- Nothing needs to be added or changed to the primary domain itself.
- The subdomain must point to the same IP as the primary domain. If the user is using multiple dedicated IPs on their server, confirm that the main domain's cPanel and the subdomain's cPanel have the same IP.
- Anything that needs to be created for that sub-domain (emails, folders, SPF) is all separate from the primary domain because it creates its own zone with the separate cPanel.
