Rate Limit Bots in Cloudflare

This article covers how to enable bot rate limiting in Cloudflare to limit bot access attempts to your website to prevent overload, while still letting bots through.

IMPORTANT: This guide requires you have Cloudflare enabled on your site.

Enable Rate Limits

1. Log in to your Cloudflare dashboard, and select your account and domain.
2. Click on Security > Security Rules.
   NOTE: If prompted, choose the new Cloudflare Dashboard.
3. Click +Create Rule.
4. Click Rate Limiting Rules.
5. Complete the Form.
   
   1. Enter a Rule Name.
   2. Under Field, Select Verified Bot.
   3. Under When rate exceeds, Enter 1 request, and Choose 10 seconds.
   4. Under Choose Action, Select Block.
   5. Under Duration, Choose 10 seconds.
6. Click Deploy.
