When emails are going to spam, the first place to check is the Email Deliverability tool in cPanel. However, this tool will not work correctly if your domain's nameservers are not pointing to InMotion Hosting.
In this case, the DNS records provided by the Email Deliverability tool will need to manually be added at your DNS provider.
There will be an error in cPanel's Email Deliverability as follows. This system does not control DNS for the “<domain.tld>”
domain. You can install the suggested “SPF” record locally. However, this
server is not the authoritative nameserver. If you install this record, this
change will not be effective. Contact the person responsible for the “<nameserver>”
and “<nameserver>” nameservers and request that they update the “SPF” record
with the following:
.
Check Nameservers
- Check the nameservers that your domain is using by using a tool like dnschecker.org
- Type the name of your domain into the text box
- Switch the A dropdown to NS
- Click Search
- If the nameservers listed are ns1.inmotionhosting.com and ns2.inmotionhosting.com, the error given by the email deliverability tool is a false positive and the tool can be used normally
- If the nameservers are a third parties nameserver's, then the records provided by the email deliverability tool will need to be manually added at your DNS provider
