A subdomain is a domain that is part of another (main) domain. Some examples of common subdomains using a main domain of domain.com would be blog.domain.com, shop.domain.com, staging.domain.com, and even www.domain.com.
Subdomains can be used to separate and organize your website into different sections, to host separate websites without purchasing additional domains, to create staging websites, or to redirect traffic elsewhere. Here we go over the steps to create a subdomain in your cPanel.

Getting Started with cPanel
Register New Domain
Add a Subdomain
- Log into cPanel
- Click on the Domains button, located in the Domains section
- Click Create a New Domain on the right side of the page
- Enter the name of the new subdomain in the Domain field
- Uncheck the Share document root option
NOTE: The Document Root field will be filled in automatically. Checking the Share document root... box will create the subdomain as an alias instead. Most of the time, this should be unchecked.
- Click the Submit button
IMPORTANT: If the domain is not using InMotion nameservers, you will need to create an A record for the new subdomain pointing to the IP address associated with your cPanel account wherever you manage DNS for the domain.
