This article explains how to compress a file using File Manager in cPanel. cPanel allows compression of multiple files into .zip, .tar, and .gz files through its web interface, rather than requiring the files to be compressed over command line.

Compressing Files
- Log into cPanel
- Under the Files section, locate and click File Manager
- Navigate to the folder location for the desired file to compress
- While holding down the Ctrl key, click on each file that you would like included in the compressed file

Click the Compress button at the top right of the page
TIP: You can also right click and select the compress option.
- On the “Compress” page, choose which compression you would like to use (such as zip or tar), enter a name for the file, and then click Compress File(s)
- When the files have been compressed successfully, you’ll see a success page that lists the compressed files similar to the below screenshot
IMPORTANT: Depending on size of files involved the compression may take several minutes.
