This guide is designed to walk you through the steps necessary to establish an SSH connection to your CentOS Web Panel (CWP) server as the root user.
Generate/Authorize SSH Keys
IMPORTANT: This solution will require root access. If this needs to be obtained, follow this guide on requesting root access.
- Access CWP Admin
- Navigate to Server Settings section
- Click SSH Key Generator
- Click Generate New Keys
- Once the key has been generated, click Add Public Key to Authorized
Saving your SSH Key Pair to your computer
- Copy all Public Key text in the Your Authorized Keys box
- Open your preferred text editor, such as Notepad, and paste the copied text into the new Notepad file
- Save the new Public Key File as "id_rsa.pub" with the quotes (" ") included in the file name
IMPORTANT: The quotation marks need to be included in the file name so that Notepad doesn't append .txt to the end of the file.
NOTE: Ensure you keep track of where you save the key file, as it will be needed later.
- Copy all the Key Text from the Your Private Key text box
- Using the same text editor you used for the Public Key, save the Private Key File as "id_rsa", using the same method of adding quotes used above, and preferably saving it in the same place as your Public Key File
- Next, navigate to the Security section
- Click CSF Firewall
- Obtain your Public IP Address
- Paste your Public IP Address into the IP box and click Quick Allow
- You can now use your preferred terminal application to connect to your CWP server as the root user
TIP: Common terminal applications include PuTTY, Windows Terminal, and Terminus.
