Find the Document Root of a Domain

The document root of a domain is the top-level folder from which the website is served. For the primary domain, this is typically public_html.

Addon domains typically have document roots named after the domain, and their document roots are usually outside of the public_html folder. However, this is not always the case.

Locating the document root of a domain is important when changes need to be made to the website's files. Confirming the correct document root is essential to ensure that the correct files are being modified.

Finding the Document Root

1. Navigate to the appropriate cPanel
2. Navigate to Domains, located in the Domains section
   
3. The path for the relevant domain will be listed under the Document Root column
   
   TIP: Clicking on the Document Root will open a new window in File Manager in that Document Root.
   

NOTE: If the site files are not found in the listed directory, check the .htaccess file to see if it is redirecting to another directory. If no redirect rules are found in the .htaccess file, ensure that the domain is pointed to the server here.
