This article covers decompressing or extracting a file in the File Manager in cPanel. cPanel allows .zip, .tar, and .gz files to be extracted or uncompressed through its web interface, rather than requiring the files to be extracted before being uploaded.

Decompressing Files
- Log into cPanel
- Under the Files section, locate and click File Manager
- Navigate to the folder location for the desired file to decompress
- Right Click on the file and choose Extract
TIP: Extract can also be selected from the top menu bar in the File Manager. - On the Extract page, choose the directory to extract the files to and click Extract File(s)
- When the files have been extracted, an Extraction Results page will display that lists the extracted files or any errors that occurred
IMPORTANT: Depending on the archive file size, this may take several minutes.
