WHM's Backup Configuration feature is a great solution for automatically creating regular backups of your cPanel accounts. When left on your server, however, these backups can quickly use up all of your available disk space.
To minimize disk usage, or to save an additional copy of your backups, you can configure Additional Destinations to save the backups to an external location, such as Amazon S3, Google Drive, Backblaze, or another server. Here we cover the steps to configure an additional destination for your backups.

Configure Additional Destination
IMPORTANT: This solution will require root access. If this needs to be obtained, follow the guide on requesting root access.
- Log into Root WHM
- Expand the Backup dropdown and select Backup Configuration
- Click the Additional Destinations tab
- Select the Destination Type from the drop-down menu
- Click the Create New Destination button
- Complete all applicable fields
NOTE: The exact process from this point will vary depending on the destination type selected. See cPanel's documentation for more information on setting up the various destination types. - Click Save Destination
- If you do not wish to retain backups on your server after they are transferred to the selected destination
- Return to the Backup Settings tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and uncheck the box beside Retain Backups in the Default Backup Directory then click the Save Configuration button
IMPORTANT: Backups will be created on the server prior to being transferred to the destination. This means you will need to have enough disk space available on your server for the backup to complete, regardless of whether it will be retained on the server. If the backup process is interrupted due to lack of disk space or the server being rebooted, or if the transfer to the destination fails, the backups will not be automatically removed from the server.
- Return to the Backup Settings tab
