Here we will cover how to point a domain registered with InMotion Hosting to Shopify.
The steps here are done from the Shopify dashboard and within the cPanel for the domain at InMotion Hosting.
Connecting your domain with Shopify is crucial if you'd like to run your site from Shopify but host the domain with InMotion Hosting.

Pointing a Domain to Shopify
IMPORTANT: This guide assumes that the domain to be pointed has its nameservers pointed to your server with InMotionHosting. Ensure that the nameservers are pointed here before proceeding.
- Log into cPanel
- Open the Zone Editor, located in the Domains section
- Click Manage to the right of the relevant domain
- Locate the domain's A record
- Click Edit
- Edit the A record to point to Shopify's IP address

- Click Save Record
- Click Edit
- Locate the domain's www CNAME record
- Click Edit
- Edit the CNAME record to point to shops.myshopify.com
- Click Save Record
- Click Edit
- Open the Zone Editor, located in the Domains section
- Log into your Shopify admin dashboard
- Go to Online Store > Domains
- Click Connect existing domain
- Enter the domain that you want to connect, such as
domain.com
REPLACE:domain.com
with the appropriate registered domain. - Click Next
- To confirm that the domain is connected to the Shopify store, click Verify Connection.
Pointing a Subdomain to Shopify
IMPORTANT: This guide assumes that the subdomain to be pointed has its nameservers pointed to your server with InMotionHosting. Ensure that the nameservers are pointed here before proceeding.
- Log into cPanel
- Navigate to Zone Editor, located in the Domains section
- Click Manage to the right of the relevant domain
- Edit the existing subdomain's A record or create a new CNAME record if an A record doesn't exist
- If editing an existing subdomain
- Click Edit next to the existing subdomain's A record
- Change the record to a CNAME record
- Point the CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com
- Click Save Record
- Click Edit next to the existing subdomain's A record
- If creating a new CNAME record
- Create a new CNAME record with the following values:
- Name: The subdomain that will be used to connect to the Shopify store
- TTL: This can be left as the default value
- Type: CNAME
- Record: shops.myshopify.com
EXAMPLE:
- Name: example.domain.com
- TTL: default
- Type: CNAME
- Record: shops.myshopify.com
- Click Save Record
- Create a new CNAME record with the following values:
- If editing an existing subdomain
- Log into your Shopify admin dashboard
- Go to Online Store > Domains
- Click Connect existing domain
- Enter the domain that you want to connect, such as
domain.com
REPLACE:domain.com
with the appropriate registered domain. - Click Next
- To confirm that the domain is connected to the Shopify store, click Verify Connection
Keeping Email Pointed to InMotion after Pointing the Site
- Change the
mail
CNAME to an A record and point it to the server IP - Edit the MX record to point to the
mail
record
EXAMPLE: The MX record is pointed to mail.domain.com. The mail.domain.com A record is pointed to the server IP. - Confirm Email Routing is set to Local in the Email Routing section in cPanel
