Here we discuss how to adjust or disable outgoing SpamAssassin filtering by changing the score or disabling the feature on VPS and dedicated servers. Adjusting this setting can help with email delivery for messages being sent from the server that are blocked as suspected spam.
Adjust or Disable Outgoing SpamAssassin Filter
NOTE: Caution should be exercised when disabling or changing this feature. If SpamAssassin thinks a message is spam, it is possible a 3rd party service will as well. If email is left unmonitored on the server or the spam score is set too high, it is more likely that you can accidentally harm your mail reputation, or that a hacker can send more spam emails, doing greater damage to mail reputation.
IMPORTANT: This solution will require root access. If this needs to be obtained, follow the guide on requesting root access.
- Log into Root WHM
- Click Exim Configuration Manager
- Navigate to the Basic Editor tab and select the Apache SpamAssassin™ Options tab
- To disable the filter, set "Scan outgoing messages for spam and reject based on the Apache SpamAssassin™ internal spam_score setting" to Off
- If you wish to keep the filter on but make it more or less strict, enable "Scan outgoing messages for spam and reject based on defined Apache SpamAssassin™ score"
- Set the score to desired spam score
NOTE: The lower the score, the more strict the spam filter is. - Once the change is made click Save
