Maximum Email Size and Recipient Limit

This article explains the maximum size and recipient limit for emails sent from InMotion Hosting servers.  These limits apply to all email addresses on the server and impact messages being sent from Webmail and email client software connected to the addresses on the server.

Email Size Limit

TIP: If a large file needs to be emailed, it is recommended to upload the file to the server via FTP and email a link to the file instead.

1. The email maximum size limit is 50MB
   1. This limit applies to the entire message
      1. What this means is that regardless of whether you attach a file that is 50MB or you attach two files that are 25MB each, in both examples, the size of the email would be at least 50MB

Recipient Limit

1. The single email message recipient limit is 50 addresses
   NOTE: This includes recipients in TO:, CC:, and BCC:.

Changing the Limit on VPS and Dedicated Servers

IMPORTANT: This solution will require root access. If this needs to be obtained, follow the guide on requesting root access.

NOTE: This solution will change the limit for all email accounts on the server.

1. Log into Root WHM
2. Click on Exim Configuration Manager in the Service Configuration section on the left side panel
   
3. Click on the Advanced Editor tab
   
4. Scroll down and click on the Add additional configuration setting button
   
5. Click on the dropdown and search for message_size_limit
   
6. Click on the message_size_limit option
7. In the field to the right, enter the value for the new message size limit
   
8. Scroll to the very bottom and click Save
