Other Services on Microsoft 365

Here we cover the steps to add the DNS records needed for other Microsoft 365 services.

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) offers a suite of productivity and collaboration tools beyond email, including Office Suite apps, OneDrive for cloud storage, Teams for communication, SharePoint for document management, and more. Some services may require adding CNAME or SRV records for custom domain integration, ensuring seamless access and functionality.

Before you start using these services with your domain, some DNS changes will need to be made. While you can opt to use Microsoft's nameservers to simplify the process, you may wish to continue managing your domain's DNS from their InMotion Hosting account instead.

Add CNAME records to connect other services (Teams, Exchange Online, AAD, MDM)

CAUTION: The steps below require that the domain is using InMotion Hosting nameservers.  If you're using an external nameserver, any DNS updates will need to be made on the external nameserver.

1. Log into cPanel
2. Navigate to Zone Editor, located under the Domains section
   
3. Click the Manage button next to the applicable domain
   
4. Click the down arrow next to the +Add Record button, then click Add "CNAME" Record
    
5. Add the following values:
   1. Name: Copy the value from the admin center and paste it here
   2. TTL: Leave this set to 900
   3. Record: Copy the value from the admin center and paste it here
      NOTE: You'll get these details from the Microsoft admin center domain setup wizard.
6. Click the Save Record button
   NOTE: DNS modifications may take up to 4-24 hours to fully propagate.

Add SRV Records for Communications services (Teams, Skype for Business)

CAUTION: The steps below require that the domain is using InMotion Hosting nameservers.  If you're using an external nameserver, any DNS updates will need to be made on the external nameserver.

1. Log into cPanel
2. Navigate to Zone Editor, located under the Domains section
3. Click the Manage button next to the applicable domain
4. Click the down arrow next to the +Add Record button, then click Add "SRV" Record
5. Add the following values:

   1. Name: Enter your domain, preceded by the Service and Protocol, which you'll copy from the admin center
      NOTE: You must specify the Service and Protocol values in the record's Name field. To add these values, you create a single string, separating the values with a dot. For example, this might look like the following:
       

      _sip._tls.domain.com

   2. TTL: Leave this set to 900
   3. Target: Copy the value from the admin center and paste it here
   4. Priority: 100
   5. Weight: 1
   6. Port: Copy the value from the admin center and paste it here
6. Click the Save Record button
   NOTE: DNS modifications may take up to 4-24 hours to fully propagate.
