Gmail allows connecting directly to an email account hosted here through its webmail interface.
This guide explains how to set up Gmail to check email using POP3 (IMAP is not an option) and how to use SMTP to send emails to that user. This can also prevent issues caused by forwarding emails to Gmail.

Set Up POP3 (Receive)
NOTE: This is for setting up Gmail to be used as an email client. This is not the same as Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), which changes the Mail eXchange (MX) records in the DNS. Google Workspace can be configured using the Google MX Wizard.
CAUTION: Do not use cPanel forwarders to receive emails in Gmail. In some cases, this can cause problems with sending emails to any Gmail account. If spam is being forwarded, this can also make the email account look more suspicious to Gmail, leading to legitimate emails on your domain being flagged as spam. Even without spam being forwarded, it's common for the inbound account (the Gmail account) to treat the email as spam since the "To" address is different than the Gmail address is set up for.
IMPORTANT: To ensure the email is delivered safely, it's best to set up Gmail like an email client and have Gmail log in, retrieve the emails, then close the connection. Gmail will then check emails every 5 minutes. This frequency is not able to be changed by the Gmail user. It's a strict setting by Gmail.
NOTE: When using this setup, IMAP is not allowed. Gmail will pull the emails off of the server using POP3 and, if desired, can set up the ability to send emails using that same email account. Gmail does not support IMAP setups for checking 3rd party email addresses.
- Log in to cPanel
- Retrieve the email account settings
- Log in to the Gmail account that will be checking the email account on the server
- In the upper-right corner of the Gmail Inbox, click the gear icon
- Click on See all settings
- Click on Accounts
TIP: It may also be called Accounts and Import.
- Under the Check mail from other accounts section, click on Add a mail account
- Enter the email address located on InMotion Hosting's servers
- Enter the username, password, POP Server and port information
NOTE: All of this information is the same information that would be used to set up any other email client like Thunderbird or Outlook
- Username: The full email address
- Password: The password used for the email account
- POP server: The Hostname found under Account Technical Details
- Port: 995 (for secure), 110 (for insecure)
- Additional options
- Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server: recommended to have checked
CAUTION: POP3 by default will remove the emails from the server and download them to the local client, in this case Gmail. This option will have Gmail keep a copy of the original message on the server as well, instead of removing it. - Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail: recommended to have checked
- Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server: recommended to have checked
- Click Add Account
- Gmail will be set up to retrieve emails from the InMotion Hosting servers
Set Up SMTP (Send)
NOTE: Gmail will ask the user if they want to have the ability to send email from the email address as well.
- If desired, select Yes, I want to be able to send mail
- Enter the user's name, as it would appear when sending emails from this account.
- Ensure that the check box for Treat as an alias. is checked
- On the Send mail through SMTP server page, fill in the following details
- SMTP Server: The Hostname found under Account Technical Details
- Port: 465 (secure) or 578 (insecure)
- Username: The full email address
- Password: The password used for the email account

Secured connection using SSL: recommended to select this option
- Gmail will email a verification code to the email address that was just added
- Either click the link in the email or copy/paste the code into the text box and click Verify
- Gmail is now set up as an email client to both send and receive emails
